To ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for everyone and to protect the priceless collection and grounds, we ask all visitors to adhere to the following rules. Please respect these guidelines during your visit

Photography & Filming

Personal photography is welcome, but flash is not permitted inside the Palace. Tripods and selfie sticks are also not allowed indoors. Drones are strictly prohibited anywhere on the estate.

Bags & Luggage

Only small bags may be taken into the Palace. Lockers are available near the shop for larger items for a fee. For security, bag searches may be in operation.

Dogs

Dogs on leads are welcome to enjoy the Parkland. However, they are not permitted in the Palace, Formal Gardens, Walled Garden, or on the miniature train (assistance dogs excepted).

Bikes & Scooters

The use of bicycles, scooters, skateboards, and similar equipment is not permitted within the main visitor areas. Cycle racks are provided for those arriving by bike.

Common questions on visitor conduct

Why is flash photography not allowed?
The bright, intense light from a flash can cause cumulative damage to the delicate pigments in paintings, tapestries, and other historic artefacts.
Can I have a picnic in the grounds?
Yes, you are very welcome to picnic in the Parkland. There are many beautiful spots by the lake or with a view of the Palace. Please do not picnic in the Formal Gardens.
Is smoking permitted?
Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside any of the buildings or on the miniature train. If you wish to smoke in the grounds, please be considerate of other visitors.
Are children's scooters allowed?
Children are permitted to ride scooters, push-bikes, and tricycles in the Park only, and must be supervised by an adult at all times.
What happens if I have a large bag?
You will be asked to store it in the lockers provided near the Palace shop. The lockers are available in different sizes and require a small fee.
